Today I had to sign the lease documents for our new apartment. I had to sign several papers. The lease procedure in U.S is completely different from India except for the security deposit.
In U.S people can lease their apartment on a half-yearly or yearly basis. On breakage of lease one has to pay rent for the remaining period of the lease. Renewal or termination of the lease contract has be notified two months in advance.
Your security deposit is returned back in full only after thorough inspection of the house.
I never bothered about lead paints affecting health, one of the lease documents insisted that the renter knows the deleterious effects of lead paint on one's health.
I had to sign another document explaining the security aspects of the apartment.
The documents covered all the policies and procedures to lead a safe and secure life.
People can not smoke inside the apartment as each apartment is facilitated with a smoke detector. I was stunned reading the details on smoke detector, short beeps from the smoke detector is an indication of low battery. It is the complete responsibility of the tenant to get the battery replaced. Even if the smoke detector is non-functional or if the smoke detector triggers a alarm signal the tenant is under complete watch.
